Bitcoin has a life of its own. Sometimes the price skyrockets, sometimes it plummets. The reasons are not always immediately apparent. When it comes to Bitcoin, nothing can be calculated, with the exception of one event that was repeated on Saturday night: the halving. This reduces the supply of new coins. The idea is that if demand stays the same or increases, the price will rise. Market observers expect prices to rise in the long term. Peter Bofinger, on the other hand, economist and senior professor at the University of Würzburg, doesn’t believe in the hype surrounding cryptocurrencies. In the interview he explains why.
