Bonus TV: 164 thousand televisions were sold in just one week

by admin

In the first week of validity of the state incentive for the purchase of devices compatible with the new digital terrestrial, GfK recorded a strong growth in sales of televisions (+ 122%), with over 164,000 units sold.

A substantial number of Italians – observes Gfk – decided to immediately take advantage of state subsidies. This choice was encouraged by the Italian football championship which began on 21 August. With the acquisition by DAZN of the rights to broadcast Serie A matches, many have therefore decided to replace their traditional television with a Smart TV, capable of streaming content.

In fact, GfK data indicate that already the week before the entry into force of the bonus TV – the one between 16 and 22 August 2021 – had recorded a positive trend, with sales growth per unit equal to +17.3 % compared to the same period in 2020.

Furthermore, according to the surveys made by GfK Market Intelligence, the trend is positive even if the data of the analyzed week (week 34) is compared with the average of the weeks since the beginning of 2021: in this case the growth was equal to + 120%.

On 23 August the inter-ministerial decree on the TV scrapping bonus came into force, which aims to encourage the purchase of new televisions and decoders in view of the announced switch-off. The bonus allows you to get a discount at the cashier – in store and online – equal to 20% of the purchase price up to a maximum of 100 euros, as long as the buyer is up to date with the Rai fee and gives an old TV to be scrapped. .
