Borussia Dortmund beat Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 on Tuesday evening and are now in the final of the Champions League. Mats Hummels scored the decisive goal, which not only gave BVB a boost in terms of sport but also financially: the club expects millions in additional income from reaching the final. On Wednesday morning, the club’s share price rose by almost 10 percent to temporarily 4.35 euros, but is currently at 4.27 euros (as of 1 p.m.).
It is the third time that the club has reached the final of the Champions League. The last time they lost at Wembley was against Bayern Munich in 2013.

Club receives bonuses amounting to 63 million euros
However, in an interview with Reuters, analyst Philipp Sennewald from Nuways is skeptical about whether Dortmund will win the final. Despite this assessment, the club has increased its profit forecast for the current financial year: BVB now expects a consolidated annual surplus of 40 to 50 million euros, after previously expecting a surplus of 33 to 43 million euros.
Before the win against Paris Saint-Germain, BVB had already secured almost 43 million euros through success-related bonuses in the group phase and the knockout games. By reaching the final, the club will receive at least another 15.5 million euros. If they win in the final, the success-related bonuses could amount to a total of 63 million euros, as “Handelsblatt“ reported.
Club receives millions in income from the Champions League
According to the “Handelsblatt”, BVB achieved a total of over 100 million euros in Champions League revenue in the current season. The starting bonus in the group phase alone would be 15.64 million euros. A further distribution from UEFA, which depends on performance over the last five years, would bring an additional 27.29 million euros.
The players also benefit from the successes. According to “Bild Sport”, the team council around captain Emre Can is negotiating the bonuses with sports director Sebastian Kehl. The team received around three million euros for reaching the round of 16 and two million euros for reaching the quarter-finals.
By reaching the final, the players can now count on a million-dollar bonus again. Exactly how high the sum is remains unclear. However, it is divided according to missions.
