Authorities of Cubana de Aviación, the national airline company of Cuba, have announced the sale of tickets for domestic flights on one of the most popular routes in the country. Flights between Holguín and Havana will be available for booking from April 10 to October 23, 2024.
The airline will be operating one flight a week, every Wednesday, with the exception of May 1st. Payment can be made through various methods accepted at their sales offices, or customers can self-manage their tickets through the Cubana de Aviación website.
This announcement comes after a series of incidents on flights between Havana and Holguín during the month of March, which were attributed to operational reasons by the authorities. The availability of flights on this route is seen as crucial information for travelers.
While a price increase for domestic flights was announced earlier this year, it has not been implemented yet due to ongoing considerations. The Cuban government is reevaluating the subsidy for domestic flights, which is expected to result in a significant price increase of almost 300%.
Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, head of the Ministry of Transportation, and Lourdes Rodríguez Ruiz, vice minister of Finance and Prices, have provided details on the new rates for domestic flights. The decision to eliminate subsidies reflects a shift towards pricing tickets based on the actual cost of the service.
As travelers prepare for upcoming flights on the Holguín-Havana route, they can expect changes in pricing as the Cuban government moves towards restructuring the transportation sector. Stay tuned for further updates on domestic flights and routes with Cubana de Aviación.
