Dimon in Washington, but not for political purposes

JPMorgan CEO, Jamie Dimon he does not intend to run for president, the largest bank in the United States said, after speculation in recent days about his potential political aspirations.

“As he’s said in the past, Jamie has no plans to run,” she said JPMorgan in a note. “She is very happy with her current role.”

The speculations

The major lender’s comment comes after the billionaire and hedge fund manager, Bill Ackmansaid last week that Dimon is expected to run for president in the next US election.

When asked by Bloomberg News last week if he would ever consider public office, Dimon said: “I love my country, and maybe one day I will serve my country in one way or another”without specifying a role.

Bank CEOs, including Dimon, are sometimes touted as potential candidates for high-level government positions such as US Treasury secretary or other economic policy roles. Henry Paulsonformer CEO of Goldman Sachs, led the US Treasury between 2006 and 2009, right during the financial crisis.

Last month, Dimon, 67, said he runs the largest bank in the United States with the same intensity as when he was younger, but let it be known with a laugh that he intends to stay another “3 1/2 years”.
Dimon said the bank’s plans regarding his tenure remained unchanged, though he didn’t provide details, during an investor meeting in New York.

When asked at various points during his 17-year tenure about succession plans, Dimon had previously cited five years as the timeline for stepping down. He expressed confidence in the next generation of executives and the board’s succession planning.

Dimon, the visit to Washington

JPMorgan Chief Executive Chase said on Tuesday he was not seeking public office even as he met with a group of Democrats in the US House of Representatives to discuss economic issues.

Dimon told reporters he was not in Washington to discuss a possible political career and said he was not considering a run for president.

“They’re not,” Dimon told reporters ahead of the meeting. “I no longer know why I have to answer this question.”

Dimon was on Capitol Hill meeting with the New Democrat Coalition, a group of centrist Democrats. “We’re talking about helping grow our economy and make it more prosperous for everyone,” Dimon said as he entered the closed meeting.
