There are airlines that react to the crisis by halving the number of planes (unfortunately this is the case of our Alitalia) and there are companies that instead buy new planes to ride the wave of recovery. The carrier Sky Express, which now ranks sixteen aircraft, has recently purchased six Airbus A320neo aircraft, and by the end of this year will receive another six aircraft, model ATR 72-600. Sky Express is a small carrier based in Greece, but soon with such an enhanced fleet it will no longer be so small.
“We are really very proud because, by the end of the year, we will have the youngest and greenest fleet in Greece” they say from the parent company. In air transport this has to be done. It is a somewhat particular sector, where there are no position rents, and wait-and-see / conservative strategies do not lead anywhere, much less is the policy of cuts effective: in air transport you always have to grow, and those who don’t. declines and is destined to disappear. There is no middle ground.
Sky Express is headquartered in Heraklion, on the island of Crete. It is based on Heraklion, Thessaloniki and Athens airports and connects them with various European destinations. It also ensures links between the Greek islands, and the new ATR regional aircraft it is about to acquire are perfect for the purpose.
