Electric cars, Hyundai updates Ioniq 5: more technology and autonomy

The South Korean brand unveiled the Ioniq 5 globally in February 2021, becoming the first model based on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-Gmp), Hyundai’s first dedicated electric vehicle platform.

And, now, the brand’s first 100% electric midsize crossover is updated with the introduction of a new 77.4 kWh battery pack. In addition, the car will have some new features, including battery conditioning and camera-equipped digital mirrors.

Digital mirrors and a new battery

Twelve months after its launch, the first update arrives which introduces a series of new features, including: internal and external digital mirrors with video cameras that will be available on request and which confirm the modern and digital positioning of the model.

The Digital Center Mirror (Dcm) optimizes visibility by providing an unobstructed panoramic rear view of the car, thanks to the Dcm camera installed under the rear spoiler. In addition, DCMs reduce air resistance and provide drivers with a clear rear view, even in bad weather.

In addition, the new battery conditioning feature will allow the Ioniq 5 to automatically adjust the battery temperature while traveling, to ensure optimal charging conditions when reaching the charging point. This offers better charging performance in colder environmental conditions. The function is activated automatically when a charging point is entered into the vehicle’s navigation system, using the linked route.
