In the last European elections, the proportion of eligible voters who cast their votes by postal vote rose continuously. In 1994, when postal voters were first recorded nationwide, this proportion was 10.9 percent. By 2019, this value increased to 28.4 percent. However, there is regional variation in the use of postal voting. For example, the proportion of postal voters in Rhineland-Palatinate was 44.2 percent, while in Saxony-Anhalt it was only 17.7 percent.
