European, the interview of the director of Affari Perrino with Capitano Ultimo

WHO IS THE LAST CAPTAIN

Sergio De Caprio, also known as “Capitano Ultimo” was born in Montevarchi (Arezzo) on 21 February 1961. He is mainly known for having carried out, when he was head of the Crimor unit of the ROS of the Carabinieri, the arrest of Cosa Nostra leader Totò Riina on 15 January 1993. With the rank of colonel he was deputy commander of the Carabinieri Command for Environmental Protection in Rome. “Ultimo” is a candidate in the European elections with Cateno De Luca’s “Libertà” list.

He founded the “Volontari Capitano Ultimo” family home in Rome, where he carries out solidarity projects towards the less fortunate.

On 6 April 2024 he announced his candidacy in the European elections and after 31 years he showed his face for the first time, lowering the covering he wore when in public to hide his features.

Due to his anti-mafia investigations he has been in the sights of Cosa Nostra for over 30 years. Some collaborators of justice tell of plans aimed at killing him: Gioacchino La Barbera reported in a public hearing that the boss Leoluca Bagarella had proposed a million lire as a gift to a Carabiniere who provided news to Cosa Nostra to obtain information on where the captain was staying.

The repentant Salvatore Cancemi reported having participated in a meeting in June 1993 with Bernardo Provenzano, Raffaele Ganci and Leoluca Bagarella during which Provenzano informed him of the existence of a project to capture Captain Ultimo with the aim of holding him hostage and subsequently killing it. Even the repentant Giuseppe Guglielmini reported on 9 May 1997 that he had learned from the killer Giovannello Greco that Bernardo Provenzano had the obsessive intention and obsession of killing Captain Ultimo. In 2014, Colonel De Caprio’s escort was revoked, then returned after the weekly Panorama reported it.
