Fake spare parts factories, from Fiat to Opel: seizures worth 8 million euros

In Turin the Financial Police seized 8 million euros of machinery for the production of counterfeit spare parts for cars of brands such as Fiat and Volkswagen

The Turin Financial Police seized around 500 thousand car spare parts found to be fake and produced with unauthorized machinery and moulds. We are talking about parts such as wheel covers, emblems, ornaments and tuning for bodywork of brands such as Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Citroen, Opel, Peugeot, Dacia, Skoda, Ford, Volkswagen, Toyota, Nissan, Renault, Seat, Iveco e Chevrolet. The GdF investigated 20 people on charges of receiving stolen goods and manufacturing and trading counterfeit products, with the aggravating circumstance of having committed the crimes in a systematic way and with a deep-rooted organisation.

The investigations made it possible to discover not only the production chain but also a series of companies that distributed the counterfeit parts via e-commerce platforms. For this reason, searches were carried out in Piedmont, Campania, Calabria, Puglia, Basilicata, Lombardy and Tuscany.

In all the Financial Police seized 28 industrial machinery and 449 molds for the reproduction of brands. During the search, a storage area was also discovered in the warehouses of a logistics company, unrelated to the facts, which had been rented by the counterfeiters to store the counterfeit spare parts. The commercial value of the production lines is 8 million euros.
