Guinea will benefit from a $167 million grant from the Global Fund as part of the fight against AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. This was reported by the Guinean Press Agency (Agp): the grant, which covers the period 2024-2026, aims to strengthen the Guinean healthcare system and reduce mortality linked to these diseases.
“Among other things, for HIV this will mean antiretroviral treatment for 97% of patients and viral suppression for 90% of them. For tuberculosis, increase the therapeutic success of cases to 92% and, for malaria, the prevention and management of cases already registered,” said Oumar Diouhé Bah, Guinean Minister of Health.
According to the Global Fund, Guinea has made significant progress in the fight against HIV, tuberculosis and malaria, despite major challenges such as weak health infrastructure and recurring Ebola epidemics: HIV incidence has declined, tuberculosis has become less threatening, and the prevalence of malaria among children under 5 has also decreased.
In total, the Global Fund has mobilized US$544.21 million for Guinea, of which US$478.20 million has been disbursed to support the country’s efforts in fighting these diseases.
