More than 5.3 million retirees in 2020 had a total retirement income of less than 1,000 euros. It can be read in theInps Observatory on pensions and pension system beneficiaries according to which 33.4% of overall pensioners are below this threshold, receiving only 12% of the 307.6 billion euros paid out for pensions during the year. The majority of pensioners under € 1,000 are women (3.4 million). In the range of the highest pensions, over 4 thousand euros per month, there are 585 thousand pensioners (3.6% of the total) with incomes of over 40 billion overall (13.2% of the total).
It is of concern that women make up the majority of retirees but receive only 44% of total retirement income. In particular, women are 52% of the 16,041,202 pensioners and on average they received € 16,233 compared to the average of 22,351 for men with a difference of 27%. A total of 134.9 billion euros in pensions were paid to women in the year and against 172.7 billion for men. Overall, INPS paid out € 307.69 billion for pensions in 2020.
At the end of last year, the benefits were 22,717,120, for an overall average amount of 13,544 euros. Compared to 2019, the number of benefits decreased by 0.4% and the corresponding total annual amount increased by 2.3%.
