Los Angeles Announces Minimum Wage Increase for City Workers

Los Angeles, California is set to implement a minimum wage increase for its city workers starting July 1. The city recently announced that the new minimum wage will be $17.28 USD per hour, up from the previous rate of $16.00 USD. This decision comes after several other cities in California have already raised their minimum wages since the beginning of the year.

The increase in Los Angeles is in accordance with Section 187.02 (d) of the Municipal Code, which ties the minimum wage to the Consumer Price Index for urban wage earners and administrative workers (CPI-W). This adjustment reflects the rising cost of living in the metropolitan area.

Other cities in California have also raised their minimum wages in 2024. For example, Belmont now has a minimum wage of $17.35 USD per hour, while Daly City increased its minimum wage to $16.62 USD per hour. Cupertino, Mountain View, and Santa Monica are among the cities with the highest minimum wages in the state, all exceeding $17.00 USD per hour.

Los Angeles joins a list of other counties and cities in California that are expected to raise their minimum wages on the same date. Some of these include Alameda, Berkeley, San Francisco, and Santa Monica, which will have a minimum wage of $17.27 USD per hour. The state of California continues to lead the way in providing fair wages for its workers, ensuring that they can support themselves and their families in today’s economy.
