Man Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison for Attempted Murder of Wife Over Cell Phone

The Sentencing Court for a Life Free of Violence of San Salvador has sentenced a man to 10 years in prison for attempting to murder his wife after she tried to check his cell phone. The man, identified as Ever Antonio SƔnchez GonzƔlez, was convicted of the crime of attempted simple homicide.

According to the accusation, a heated argument between the couple ensued when the woman wanted to check her husbandā€™s cell phone. During the argument, SĆ”nchez GonzĆ”lez attempted to strangle her by squeezing her neck with his forearm. The incident took place in their home in the municipality of San Luis Talpa in the department of La Paz.

In a trial that lasted two days, the womanā€™s testimony was supported by the evaluation of specialists from the Institute of Legal Medicine. As a result, the judge also ordered SĆ”nchez GonzĆ”lez to pay $1,200 as civil liability for the damage caused to the woman.

The sentence serves as a reminder of the consequences of domestic violence and the authoritiesā€™ commitment to holding offenders accountable for their actions.
