A winning team does not change, especially in times of crisis and epochal change for the car. Mazda has updated the MX-5, its iconic roadster that is consistently the best-selling sports car in the world. The fourth generation, known as ND (the previous ones were known as NA, NB, NC) and born in 2015 does not undergo aesthetic changes even in its third revision, which we could call ND3, after the modifications of 2019, two thousand engine that passed from 160 to 184 horsepower, 1.5-liter unit updated in the regulations and with 132 hp and above all the depth-adjustable steering column
Between news and confirmations
The ND3 brings to the debut new suspension Cinematica Posture Control (Kpc) which analyzes in real time the curve and the rotation difference between the wheels of the rear axle. In stopping situations, the system keeps the car stable and enhances the driving experience.
The engine range remains unchanged, including the 132 hp 1.5-liter petrol and the 184 hp 2.0-liter petrol engine.
Special lightened 990 S series
A significant number and a pride for the Japanese. In fact, it represents the weight of this version which in fact stops at 990 kg, just 30 more than the first generation of the 1989 Miata. Such a weight was made possible thanks to the adoption of 16-inch alloy wheels. and the Brembo braking system with ventilated discs and new features regarding suspension, steering and power delivery settings.
Colors
The color range is enriched with the Platinum Quartz Metallic color, also available for the version with rigid roof, the Rf (retractable fastback). In addition, the MX-5 with canvas roof will be able to count on a new dark blue soft top combined with black leather upholstery. And, new in NY2022, the intent in nappa terracotta.
Unfortunately, inside the cockpit the “old” infotainment remains, which has not been updated and whose display now shows the rope and it was necessary to provide.
Looking forward to the fifth generation
This restyling is likely to be the latest version of the MX-5 in a thermal version. In fact, as reported by the Japanese manufacturer’s strategy to electrify the entire range by 2030, the fifth generation of MX-5 (probably arriving by 2025) will be electrified in various capacities. Furthermore, even the denomination could have some novelties. In fact, after the NA, NB, NC and ND, the NG could arrive. This is because the abbreviations NE and NS have already been attributed to the 124 spider and 124 Abarth.
