McMakler: These startups are building former employees

Overall, almost none of the tech start-ups launched by former McMakler employees have anything to do with real estate. McMakler

McMakler once had a good chance of becoming a unicorn. In 2022, the proptech was still worth 800 million euros. But in mid-June last year, when the Berliners raised new millions, the valuation was said to have halved, according to information from Gründerszene.

One reason is high loan interest rates and construction costs, which have been darkening the market outlook across the real estate industry for some time.

McMakler has repeatedly laid off employees over the past few months. Most recently, almost 60 people left the company in November 2023. It was the fourth wave of layoffs within a short period of time. Since 2022, Berlin has lost around a third of its workforce.
