Mediaset profit rises to 217 million, Berlusconi: “Year to remember”

The board of directors of Mfe-Mediaforeurope (Mediaset, ed.) approved the 2023 accounts with results exceeding expectations at the beginning of the year. Net profit – excluding the accounting impact deriving in the two financial years from the contribution of the investment in Prosiebensat1 – is positive by 217.5 million euros, up 17.7% compared to 2022.

«Our holding company closed a truly memorable year. We have done everything a publicly traded company can and should do. We have invested in development by consolidating our Spanish television, increasing our participation in Germany and we have remunerated all shareholders, moreover without significantly increasing our debt” said the group’s CEO, Pier Silvio Berlusconi, at the end of the Board of Directors meeting and anticipating the full results which will be distributed tomorrow morning before the stock market opens.

«We have decided, I dare say as a matter of business ethics, to go back to hiring», adds Berlusconi, with the company underlining how employment growth is «in contrast to the global media giants who last year cut almost 100 thousand jobs. In 2023 we had set ourselves a goal of 250 new hires, I can say that we closed with well over 300 new hires. And we would like to do the same thing in 2024 and 2025, hiring especially young people and women”, explains the managing director of Biscione.

For advertising sales in the first quarter of 2024, higher than the 5% growth previously communicated, «we found a truly strong market. Our advertising revenues in Italy and Spain recorded first quarter growth of 6%. This is nice for Mediaset, but it is a good signal for all entrepreneurship, because advertising is often a litmus test of what will happen on an economic level”, concludes Pier Silvio Berlusconi.
