The United Kingdom will support Mozambique with approximately €10 million to address the humanitarian crisis in the northern province of Cabo Delgado due to terrorist attacks, but also the negative consequences of extreme weather events. This is what Radio France Internazionale (RFI) reported in recent days, quoting the British High Commissioner in Maputo, Helena Lewis, at the end of a three-day visit to the north of the country, hit by terrorist attacks.
“Given the situation with newly displaced people, we will provide over £8.3 million over the next three years in the reception sector, in mental health and also for the coordination of the international community, and in a very important sector of identity to remake and offer identification documents again for displaced people”, underlined Helena Lewis, recalling that this support is in addition to that provided last year: “We have already provided more than 28 million euros to the province of Cabo Delgado in terms of humanitarian aid not only in response to attacks and for displaced people, but also due to climate events,” he concluded.
