Alexander Baetz is 27 years old and has a six-figure portfolio. When he began his dual studies, he took his first steps on the stock market.

The Freiburg resident focuses on ETFs. The more knowledge he accumulated over time, the simpler his strategy became, he says.

When he talks about the stock market, his pragmatism resonates in every syllable. “For me, investing is a means to an end,” says Alexander Baetz. He wants to build up wealth and make provisions for his old age. But he would rather invest money than time, says the 27-year-old with a laugh. That’s why he’s particularly fond of ETFs for his six-figure portfolio.

It has been almost ten years since the Freiburg resident took his first steps on the stock exchange. Alexander Baetz was still living with his parents, a dental assistant and a bank employee when he started a dual business informatics course. It was also at this time that he became interested in finance. “When I received a salary in addition to my pocket money, I asked myself what I should do with this money.”

So the man from Freiburg has put his first salary aside for now. He took the time to find out enough about the stock market and various investment options. ETFs finally piqued his curiosity, he says. At the beginning, he invested 500 euros, almost his entire salary, in a “classic world portfolio, including MSCI World,” says the young man.

The more ETF knowledge, the simpler the strategy

He then immediately set up a savings plan. “Since I was still living at home at the time, I was able to invest most of my income directly,” says the 27-year-old. His portfolio is now in the six-figure range. He has remained true to his focus on ETFs over the years.

Alexander Baetz follows what he believes to be a “very simple” strategy: he only invests in a single stock fund. In which? He revealed that to us – as well as the arguments for his strategy.

Because no matter how much the 27-year-old raves about the stock market, it still has to be efficient for him. “For me, the big advantage of ETFs is that they require little time and energy,” he says. And further: “I benefit from the capital market without having to check my portfolio every day and make decisions.”
