Naples-Bari high speed, the last diaphragm knocked down

12 pm: in the territory of the Municipality of Valle di Maddaloni, in the province of Caserta, the last diaphragm of the Aglio mountain is demolished, opening the entire tunnel. In this way, a new important step forward is taken in the construction of the Naples-Bari high-speed and capacity line. A 6 billion euro project, partly financed with resources from the NRP.
With yesterday’s demolition, the route was created that will allow the completion of a 4 km long tunnel that connects Maddaloni and Valle di Maddaloni. This, in turn, will make it possible, by 2024, to create the direct rail link between the capital of Campania and the Apulian one.

The new line is an integral part of the European TEN-T Scandinavia – Mediterranean railway corridor and represents the first and most advanced work that the Infrastructure Pole of the FS Group is carrying out to upgrade the railway network in Southern Italy. It will be used to speed up and improve the direct transversal connection between the Tyrrhenian and the Adriatic, improving the connections of Puglia and the internal Campania provinces with the Milan – Rome – Naples high-speed / high-speed line.

Vera Fiorani, CEO and CEO of Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, and Andrea Nardinocchi, CEO and CEO of Italferr took part in the ceremony for the demolition of the diaphragm. Also present were Francesco Gianluigi Aguglia, president of the CFT Consortium, and Roberto Pagone, Extraordinary Commissioner for the work. Ghella SpA) for a total amount of 340 million, and are carried out under the works management of Italferr. Today, 60% of the work on the Cancello-Frasso Telesino section is completed.

The work – of which Rete Ferroviaria Italiana is the client and Italferr took care of the preliminary and definitive design – from 2027 will speed up travel from Puglia to Naples and Rome. More precisely, it will be possible to go from Bari to Naples in 2 hours, to Rome in 3 hours and connect Lecce and Taranto to the capital in 4 hours. Prior to this date, however, progressive reductions in travel times are envisaged, thanks to the phased opening of the new sections of the line, starting with the new direct connection in 2024.

The commissioner management activity allowed a significant acceleration of the works which led to the completion in 2017 of the first two interventions of the itinerary: the Naples / Afragola interchange node and the Bovino – Cervaro lot. From next month, work will also begin on the Hirpinia – Orsara and Orsara – Bovino lots. With the activation of all the Naples – Bari construction sites, approximately 7 thousand people will be employed a day.
