National Grain Procurement Reaches Over 80%, Ensuring Stability in Grain Supply

People’s Daily Online, Beijing, March 23 (Reporter Li Dong) – The National Grain and Material Reserves Bureau has reported that over 80% of the country’s autumn grain has been purchased, amounting to more than 170 million tons. This acquisition is crucial in transforming grain farmers’ “good harvest” into “good income.”

For nine consecutive years, China has maintained a stable grain output of over 650 million tons. In 2023, a new record high of 695 million tons was achieved, with autumn grain reaching 521 million tons, up by nearly 10 million tons from the previous year. This increase has effectively secured China’s grain supply.

The country’s grain stocks are at a relatively high level, with ample reserves of wheat and rice ensuring the “absolute safety of rations.” The structure and management of various reserves have been optimized, providing a solid material foundation for regulation.

Autumn grain procurement is currently in full swing, with various enterprises increasing their purchasing and storage efforts. The State Administration of Grain and Material Reserves has guided the Northeast region and relevant enterprises to accelerate procurement progress and facilitate connections between production and sales. It is expected that autumn grain procurement will be completed by the end of April.

Tang Cheng, Deputy Director of the Grain Reserves Department, stated that the total amount of corn purchased in Northeast China has exceeded 80 million tons, with deep processing enterprises operating at full capacity. The purchase of autumn grain is expected to remain at a high level.
