Negotiations will start in Abi on 19 July for the renewal of the national collective labor agreement for the 280,000 bankers. After the workers’ assemblies gave the union platform the go-ahead with 99.5% yes, the document will be officially presented to the bankers next week. The goal is to get the negotiations started quickly, so as to be able to reach a synthesis within this year.

Certainly the next stage will be a further freeze on the terms of the old contract, which expired at the end of 2022. The unions are asking for an increase of 435 euros for the average reference level (3A4L) on which they have already received a substantial go-ahead from Carlo Messina, CEO and managing director of Intesa Sanpaolo, who participates in the negotiations with the formula of the permanent invitation, after the revocation of the mandate of representation on the contract to ABI. In the last meeting of the Italian Banking Association, the president Antonio Patuelli recognized the need to modernize the contract and to recognize the recovery of purchasing power for workers.

The general secretary of Fabi Lando, Maria Sileoni, explains that «an economic request has been presented with an average monthly increase, to be distributed over three years, of 435 euros and we will go all the way because the banks have achieved, in 2022 alone, well 25 billion euros of profits and then why we have to recover from inflation. Wages have gone back 25 years, I’m referring to the loss of purchasing power. Today we find ourselves with almost 7 million workers and workers who have their national contract expired, in some cases even for over 5 years. One of these categories is that of journalists.
