The redevelopment of the fleet of Malpensa Express, the trains that connect Milan to the international airport. The first convoy is in service completely renovated both in the external and internal livery. The work on 14 convoys Coradia carrying out the 145 trips a day of the Malpensa Express connection provides for external re-wrapping, with a livery that recalls that of the Caravaggio and Donizetti trains – the new trains purchased by the Region with 2 billion euros that are gradually entering service -, but adopting the characteristic red color of the airport service.
A new train
On board the seats have been totally renewed, along with other furnishing elements, to give passengers the impression of boarding a new train. For the work on the exterior and interior, suitable materials were chosen to contain damage and facilitate restoration in the event of vandalism.
The restoration of the entire fleet of 14 trains will be completed by November 2022 and provides for an overall investment of over for Trenord 1.1 million euros.
Growing numbers
The Malpensa Express service is growing and has surpassed the pre-pandemic numbers. Both in April and in the first weeks of May the pre-Covid frequentations have exceeded, with respectively 11,100 daily passengers (+ 9% on 2019) and 11,600 (+ 16%).
Therefore, the tendency of passengers heading to Malpensa to choose the train, among the available modes of transport, is increasing: if the travelers who reached the airport with Malpensa Express in 2019 were the 13,4%the figure rose to 15% in 2021 and al 18,5% in 2022. The airport connection recorded a punctuality of 92%.
