Net non-performing loans (i.e. net of write-downs and provisions already made by banks with their own resources) in January 2022 increased by 3 billion, to 18.2 billion euros, compared to the figure of December 2021 (15.2 billion), lower compared to 19.9 billion in January 2021 (-1.7 billion equal to -8.5%) and 26.3 billion in January 2020 (-8.2 billion equal to -31.0%). The data emerge from the usual monthly report by ABI.

Compared to the maximum level of net bad loans, reached in November 2015 (88.8 billion), the reduction is 70.7 billion (equal to -79.6%). The ratio of net non-performing loans to total loans was 1.04% in January 2022, (it was 0.87% in December 2021, 1.14% in January 2021, 1.55% in January 2020 and 4.89% on November 2015).
