The General Directorate of Migration and Immigration (DGME) in El Salvador has processed over 36,675 residences for foreigners since 2019, according to a recent announcement. The data from immigration officials revealed that many foreigners have chosen to live in El Salvador temporarily or permanently in order to pursue personal, business, and professional projects.
Furthermore, it was reported that during the last five years, more than 1,870 people have obtained Salvadoran nationality through legal means. This highlights the attractiveness of El Salvador as a destination for individuals looking to establish roots in the country.
One of the key factors that have contributed to the increase in residency applications is the streamlining of immigration procedures. This has led to significantly reduced waiting times and quicker processing of necessary documentation.
In addition, the introduction of the Special Entry Portal has made it easier for foreigners who require a visa to travel to El Salvador. This online platform allows applicants to check the status of their case and complete the necessary procedures promptly.
The DGME emphasized the improvements in their services through a social media post, stating, “In this management, we have achieved great changes in the facilitation of services.” These advancements aim to make the immigration process more efficient and accessible for individuals looking to make El Salvador their home.
