“Ready for the offer for the cloud pole, but we need a level playing field of information”

by admin

The Italia Cloud Consortium, which has already expressed interest in the national strategic pole “will participate with an offer”. This is clarified by Antonio Baldassarra, president and CEO of Seeweb, one of the companies that is part of the team. However, he clarifies to DigitEconomy.24 (report by Sole 24 Ore Radiocor and the Luiss Business School) «we are now waiting for the Ministry of Innovation to specify the conditions for submitting the offer. We learned that there was a dialogue between the ministry and a series of subjects who presented the expression of interest, we now ask to have the same information as the others ».

For the rest, Baldassarra explains, “although we had hoped for a broader affirmation of the requisites required of the various subjects for data processing, we appreciated and respected the ecumenical approach chosen by the Minister”.

“Ours is not a disturbing action”

The national cloud match recorded interest from heavyweights such as Tim and Leonardo. But that of the consortium “is not a nuisance action” and, despite the small size, the companies on the track, explains Baldassarra, have what it takes to manage the cloud of the PA. Indeed, the public order could be the stimulus to the growth of Italian companies. Seeweb was born in ’98 as a service provider, at the dawn of the Internet, and then, in 2005, it understood the potential of cloud computing. He recently founded, together with Sourcesense, Infordata, Babylon Cloud, Eht and NetaliaIl, the Italia Cloud Consortium which, “was born at the beginning of July in conjunction with the acceleration that has taken place in recent months with the action of Minister Colao “. The consortium currently brings together six companies with a total turnover of 270 million euros and 1,890 employees.

“To make the cloud you don’t need to be a global player”

“Global operators such as Microsoft, Amazon and Google have taken the field in various ways to position themselves in the race for the Italian cloud”, but to create the cloud, Baldassarra emphasizes, “it is not necessary to be a global player”. It is therefore necessary to «clear the field of a typical Italian prejudice according to which to make the cloud one must have a certain dimension. A type of reasoning that has led to the candidacy of subjects who have never been actors of the cloud. On the other hand, there are operators who deal with the market on a daily basis and compete with the global ones ».

The spirit of the consortium is therefore to propose «an alternative narrative; it is legitimate for big players to aspire to enter the Italian market, but it is also legitimate for companies that deal with the market every day. We are certain that we have the necessary technological capabilities and skills. Now it will be necessary to see in detail what the Government requests are. ” On the other hand, the consortium, which is also open to the entry of other companies, is ready for alliances or collaborations: “We are keen, however, that any potential form of collaboration would be realized – explains Baldassarra – by enhancing Italian companies first, then European ones, then thirdly those outside Europe ».
