Rolex has a long tradition of producing timepieces for various occasions.

A particularly valuable example is the Rolex with a split second chronograph.

There are only a few of this Rolex 4113 in the world. Experts believe it is the only split-second chronograph ever made by the luxury manufacturer.

A brand that has shaped the world of watchmaking for decades and made collectors’ hearts beat faster is Rolex. But Rolex is not just Rolex

The Split Second Chronograph is one of the rarest watches. This watch from the Swiss watch house was recently sold at an auction in Monaco for a record price. One of the reasons why the price is so high: certainly because only twelve examples of this watch exist. The Rolex 4113, from 1942, achieved a proud price of the equivalent of 3.3 million euros at the auction. This also exceeded the previous record from 2016.

The coveted Rolex with split second chronograph:

The Rolex 4113 is a rarity in the world of watches. It is believed to be the only split-second chronograph ever produced by the luxury manufacturer. The special thing about a watch like this: It has the additional function with which a second hand can be started, stopped and returned to its starting position independently of the actual movement.

With a case diameter of 44 millimeters, the Rolex 4113 is one of the largest watches Rolex has ever produced. Its split second complication allows different time intervals to be measured, with two start/stop and reset buttons making operation easier. This watch comes from the collection of Auro Montanari, one of the most famous collectors and watch connoisseurs in the world. Montanari has also written several books under the pseudonym John Goldberger, including “100 Superlative Rolex Watches,” whose cover features the Rolex 4113.

Bizarre fun fact: Auction participants were also able to purchase a cheese knife to go with the watch. In a 2013 video, Montanari used this cheese knife to open the case to reveal the inner workings of the rare watch.
