Refreshments are on the way for farmers affected by swine fever measures

An extraordinary commissioner to manage the emergency and a 35 million euro refreshment package for companies that are suffering the consequences of the containment health measures adopted against African swine fever, in the hope of limiting the phenomenon as soon as possible and reopening a important piece of our territory. The decision was taken during the summit held in Rome between the Minister of Agricultural Policies Stefano Patuanelli, that of Health Roberto Speranza, and the presidents of the Liguria and Piedmont Regions, which represent the two areas affected by the measures.

The measures adopted a few days ago by the Ministry of Health to contain the disease in Piedmont and Liguria and avoid its passage from wild boar to pigs and reared wild boars, have in fact put a strain on the productive and commercial activities of the territories involved: those who breed or transforms pork into one of these red areas, in fact, he cannot take it outside the area itself.

The 35 million euros foreseen for refreshments fall within the 50 million euros allocated to bio-surveillance and support for businesses in the supply chain by the latest Ristori ter decree. The government has also decided to appoint an extraordinary interregional Commissioner for the management of the emergency: this is Angelo Ferrari, director of the experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Piedmont, Liguria and Valle d’Aosta. Meanwhile, the territories involved are running for cover: the Liguria region has asked for the suspension of tax and social security payments for companies in the pork sector of the municipalities in the red zone, in addition to the renegotiation of mortgages. The Genoa city council instead decided to set up a permanent table between local institutions and to assess compensation for all the affected activities. Piedmont, on the other hand, continues its capillary monitoring for the identification and geo-referencing of the carcasses of deceased wild boars. The requests for help from businesses also arrive from Piedmont: the prohibitions imposed by the ministerial order and by those signed by the Regions to stop the outbreak, underline the consortia for the protection of Salame Nobile del Giarolo and Terre Derthona-Strada del Vino e dei Sapori dei Colli Tortonesi (which represent a territory of 48 municipalities), are likely to knock out the economy of the Apennine countries of Piedmont.
