King Kong Organics Rwanda, a subsidiary of the American King Kong Organics (Kkog), has obtained a five-year license to grow, process and export cannabis for medicinal purposes. According to what was reported by the local newspaper The New Times, Kkog Rwanda thus becomes the first local company to officially launch into the cannabis industry since the government legalized it for therapeutic purposes in 2021.

To develop its operations, the company has started the construction of a cannabis processing unit on an area of 5 hectares in the northern district of Musanze. “This new facility will be the first of its kind with equipment for the extraction, research and design of finished cannabis products. We plan to start distilling to create the first cannabis spirits in 2025,” said Rene Joseph, founder and CEO of Kkog Rwanda.

In Africa, the American company is also present in other countries, including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zimbabwe, Malawi, South Africa, Lesotho, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Uganda and Tanzania.
