«The Region of Sicily has approved, in the Budget Law, an amendment that makes 30 million of the European social cohesion fund available to Blutec workers for active policies and retirement support. Finally, the regional institutions take charge of the complicated dispute that began more than 10 years ago with the closure of the Termini Imerese plant by Fiat ». Thus in a joint note Simone Marinelli, national coordinator for Fiom-Cgil and Roberto Mastrosimone, general secretary of Fiom-Cgil Sicily. Now, they urge, “it is necessary to continue discussions with national and territorial institutions and with the extraordinary administration, to identify a path to accompany retirement that protects workers and which must be decisive for the relaunch of the industrial area”. The goal remains the reindustrialisation of the plant “to guarantee a future and give job opportunities to the workers of Blutec, the related companies and young people in the area” concluded Marinelli and Mastrosimone.
