Stellantis, Tavares: “FCA and PSA towards electricity transition in Europe”

by admin

MILANO – Stellantis has set the first goals for its electrical strategy. By 2025, all passenger cars of the automotive group sold in Europe will have a version with a fully electric or plug-in hybrid engine. This was stated by the CEO Carlos Tavares during the shareholders’ meeting, called today to approve the 2020 budget. A goal very close to that indicated for Europe (where electrification will cover 98 percent of the range) was also given for the United States, where the ‘electric offer (full or plug-in hybrid) will cover 96 percent of the models on sale.

Tavares also unveiled the goals that Stellantis has indicated on sales. While electric-powered cars in Europe will account for 14 percent of total sales in 2021, this percentage is expected to rise to 38 percent in 2025 and 70 percent in 2030. In the United States, the pace of electric driving will instead be slower: in 2021 the forecast is that sales will represent 4 percent of the total, which will rise to 31 in 2025 and to 35 in 2030. The CEO also said that an agreement will soon be announced for the realization of a battery production plant in the United States, which will join those of Douvrin in France and Kaiserlautern in Germany, which will become operational respectively in 2023 and 2025. In Europe there will be room for an additional battery factory, on which placement evaluations are already underway.

Starting from the end of 2023, the first two common platforms will debut in the Stellantis group on which all the “medium” and “large” electrified models will be built, which will be followed in 2024 by a new platform for large SUVs and for pick up. Until 2025, electric cars will continue to be built on the evolutions of the current platforms, while from 2026 a brand new one will arrive, also for all the cars of the group. The minimum range for the smaller cars will be 500 kilometers in purely electric mode, for the larger ones it will be 800 kilometers.

The Stellantis meeting was opened by president John Elkann, who underlined how in a “difficult and demanding” year which 2020 was, the management and shareholders of FCA and PSA managed to build “something new and very special. We must not forget that FCA and PSA have created this ambitious and exciting union, achieving extraordinary results and demonstrating great resilience against all kinds of adversities “. Elkann said that with CEO Tavares “we see its birth not as a point of arrival, but as the beginning of a new exciting journey. Working together in these first months has been very enriching both professionally and personally, we can say we started in the best way “.

The work on the organization of the new group is progressing according to schedule: “We are finalizing the appointments for leadership positions, in order to create a well-balanced team between FCA and PSA, and I am pleased to announce that a quarter of these roles will be covered by women “, said Elkann, insisting on the technological and environmental breakthrough:” Stellantis has the technology, the size and the ambition to meet the challenges of a new era, but also and above all to shape the future of mobility with innovative and sustainable products and services “.
