STMicroelectronics will host Tower Semiconductor in the 300mm Agrate R3 factory currently under construction at its Agrate Brianza (MB) site. Stm and Tower will pool their resources to accelerate the growth of production activities, or the so-called ramp-up, a key factor in achieving a high level of plant utilization and, consequently, a competitive cost per silicon wafer. The factory is expected to be ready for equipment installation later this year and production to start in the second half of 2022.
The two companies will invest in their respective process equipment and work together to accelerate factory qualification and subsequent ramp-up. Operational activities will continue to be managed by Stm, with some Tower employees seconded in specific roles.
