Swiss monetary authority – 3.2 billion minus: SNB announces definitive loss – News – SRF

Contents The Swiss National Bank (SNB) reports a definitive loss of 3.2 billion francs for 2023. As already known, there are no distributions to the federal government or cantons.
In detail, the SNB made a profit of 4 billion francs on its foreign currency positions and 1.7 billion francs on its gold holdings, but a loss of 8.5 billion francs on its Swiss franc positions. Operating expenses meanwhile amounted to 0.4 billion francs, as the SNB announced.
After allocating 10.5 billion francs to the reserves and taking into account the negative distribution reserve of 39.5 billion, the balance sheet loss amounts to 53.2 billion.
Preliminary results communicated in January
The figures published today do not come as a surprise: the SNB had already reported a provisional loss of “around 3 billion” at the beginning of the year. Due to the renewed loss, the distribution to the federal government and cantons will no longer be made, as the SNB also announced in January. There will again be no dividend to shareholders.
