WirtschaftsWoche: Mr. Papermaster, you have been working on chip design for over 40 years. How do you experience the impact of artificial intelligence?
Mark Papermaster: It is clearly the biggest technological change I have experienced so far in my career. And that’s saying something: I started in the industry in 1981, when the personal computer was born. Then came the Internet and cell phones. However, the change brought about by AI is more fundamental, because now there is a new human-computer interface so that you can have a completely natural dialogue. It is still too early to understand the implications, but I think they are fundamental.
