A sudden illness this morning killed the banker Fabio Gallia, for years number one at Bnl and Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, as well as at Fineco and Fincantieri. He was currently a director of Edison. His dazzling career then flourished in Rome. In 2002 he joined the Capitalia Group, the main Italian banking group at that time, as deputy general manager and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), with responsibility for Group Finance and Wealth Management. In 2003 he was appointed co-general manager of the group; he was subsequently appointed managing director of Fineco (sub-holding of the Capitalia Group) until the incorporation of Fineco into Capitalia. From 2005 to 2007 he was appointed CEO of Banca di Roma and president of the Management Committee of the Capitalia Group. In 2008, he was CEO and general director of BNL, BNP Paribas group, and member of the executive committee of BNP Paribas. Since 2009 he has become president of Findomestic Banca and, since 2012, he has managed the BNP Paribas group in Italy.

From 2015 to July 2018 he held the position of CEO and General Director of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, National Promotion Institute; he was Vice-President of the Italian Strategic Fund and advisor to the Marguerite European infrastructure fund. He was also senior advisor of Brookfield Asset Management, and member of the board of directors of Borsa Italiana, Mts, Coesia (Seragnoli group), Ariston Thermo (Merloni group), Manifatture Sigaro Toscano and other insurance and asset management companies and senior advisor of Brookfield asset management.

He was currently a director of Edison. Last Friday he was in Milan for the board of directors meeting: there was nothing to suggest what would happen. Gallia appeared smiling, lively and friendly as always.
