The pact between Agricultural Consortiums and Barilla to save 3 million bees

by admin

Twelve hectares of flower fields to house 52 beehives, 3 million bees and an “insect hotel” dedicated to other pollinating insects such as lepidoptera and hoverflies. It is the commitment to sustainability of the Agricultural Consortiums of Italy (CAI), the first national entity fully integrated into the national agro-industrial chain, which has joined the “Carta del Mulino” project launched by Mulino Bianco, market leader in Italy for products from oven part of the Barilla Group.

The farms that adhere to the Mulino Bianco project are obliged to allocate 3% of the soft wheat fields to flowers, in order to promote biodiversity and promote the proliferation of bees and pollinating insects by protecting their natural habitat.

The “Carta del Mulino” is made up of 10 rules designed to bring quality to products, support the work of farming communities and restore space to nature in agroecosystems, promoting biodiversity, reducing the use of chemicals and safeguarding pollinating insects. The choice of the Agricultural Consortia of Italy, in addition to confirming the great commitment to the protection of biodiversity and sustainability, will allow farmers to devote themselves exclusively to the cultivation of sustainable wheat in light of the economic benefits deriving from joining the project.
