The Popolare di Bari loses 1.4 billion from the beginning of 2019 to October 2020

BARI. If from October to December 2020 the Banca Popolare di Bari lost “just” 13 million, the negative result reached 1.4 billion in the extraordinary administration period, from the beginning of 2019 to the autumn of last year. More specifically, the shareholders’ meeting of the Apulian group of 15 October last which, by appointing the new leaders, had effectively sanctioned the end of the commissioner, had simultaneously approved the financial statements for the extraordinary administration for the period from 1 January 2019 until that same day, closed with a loss of 1,399 million. Having put that phase on file, it was possible to begin the new course of Popolare di Bari, under the banner of the public bank Mediocredito Italiano (Mcc, owned by Invitalia), which, in order to gain control of 97%, already from the summer of 2020 had put 430 million on the plate.

Thus, if only the 13 million losses made by the Apulian institute once out of the commissioner weigh on the consolidated balance sheet of 2020 of Mcc, much of the negative result of 1.4 billion relating to the previous period was borne by the Fund. deposit protection interbank (Fitd). The latter, fueled by the contributions of Italian banks, as part of the bailout of the Popolare di Bari, recorded a deadweight loss of 1.17 billion: a figure in any case less than the 4.5 billion that the Fitd would have had to pay out to guarantee the deposits if the bank went into liquidation.
