The unemployment rate in the United States has risen to 3.9% in the month of April, with a slight increase of one tenth compared to the previous month, reaching the highest figure since January 2022. According to the report released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the US economy added 175,000 new jobs during the same period, falling below expectations but still reflecting a steady recovery in the labor market.
Experts had warned of a slowdown in job creation during the spring season, but the United States has maintained an average of 224,000 new jobs in the last twelve months, indicating a positive trend. The average remuneration of workers also saw a slight increase in April, reaching $34.75 per hour, with a growth of 3.9% compared to the previous year. The labor force participation rate remained stable at 62.7% during the month.
In specific sectors, the health care sector led with the addition of 56,000 new positions, followed by social assistance and the transportation and warehouse sector. The report also highlighted the relative stability of the labor market, with an average of 210,000 unemployment benefit applications during the four weeks until April 20.
