Toyota Recalls 280,000 Trucks and SUVs in the US Due to Transmission Issue
DETROIT – Toyota has announced a recall affecting about 280,000 trucks and SUVs in the United States to address a transmission problem that could cause the vehicles to slide forward while in neutral.
The recall includes certain Toyota Tundra pickup trucks, as well as the 2022 and 2023 model year Lexus LX 600 SUVs. Additionally, the 2023 and 2024 Toyota Sequoia SUVs are also included in the recall.
According to Toyota, certain parts of the vehicles’ automatic transmissions may not disengage immediately when shifting into neutral, potentially transferring some of the engine’s power to the wheels. This could result in the vehicles traveling at low speeds on flat surfaces if the brakes are not applied, increasing the risk of an accident.
As of now, the company has not reported any accidents or injuries related to the issue.
To address the problem, Toyota dealers will update the transmission software. Owners of the affected vehicles will be notified at the end of April, Toyota said. Until the issue is resolved, owners are advised to apply the brakes when the vehicle is in neutral to prevent unintended movement.
