MILANO – “This year, GDP growth of 6% is more or less an order of magnitude, it all depends on how the vaccination plan will establish itself over the next few months”. This was stated by the governor of Bank of Italy Ignazio Visco interviewed on the occasion of the ‘Made in Italy Summit 2021’ event. As for the ECB’s support for the Eurozone economy, Visco said that the financing conditions in the euro area will remain “favorable because the ECB will guarantee it: I see no surprises on this side”.
In his speech, the governor of the Bank of Italy emphasized the issue of digitization. According to Visco, we must prevent the digitization of the economy, finance and society in general, a phenomenon rapidly accelerated by the pandemic, “from translating into new forms of exclusion and we must work to ensure that its benefits are widely shared”. “In particular, – he said – the transition to digital financial services offers new opportunities but, if not effectively governed, it also poses new threats”.
