Zeng Maochao, Former Chairman of China Lenovo, Passes Away at 92
The tech industry is mourning the loss of Zeng Maochao, former chairman of China Lenovo, who passed away at the age of 92 in Beijing. The news was announced by the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences on their official WeChat account on Wednesday (March 6).
Zeng Maochao was a renowned Chinese computer expert, having served as the director of the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and as the former chairman of Legend Holdings Co., Ltd. He passed away on Monday (4th) at 10:48 pm.
Throughout his career, Zeng Maochao made significant contributions to the field of computer technology in China. He was one of the pioneers in computer magnetic recording and played a key role in the development of peripheral equipment for large and medium-sized computers.
Zeng Maochao was also a respected leader in the tech industry, serving as a representative of the 8th National People’s Congress and holding positions in various advisory groups and organizations related to computer technology.
He was instrumental in the founding and development of Lenovo, supporting and encouraging scientific researchers to establish the New Technology Development Company of the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (the predecessor of Lenovo) in 1984. He later served as the chairman of Lenovo from 1988 to 2009.
A farewell ceremony for Zeng Maochao is scheduled to be held at 11 a.m. next Tuesday (12th) in the Orchid Hall of Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery. His legacy in the tech industry will be remembered and honored by many.
