AUTUMN’S CHILD – Tellus Timeline

AUTUMN’S CHILD
Earth Timeline
(Melodic Rock | AOR)

Label: Pride & Joy
Format: (LP)

Release: 19.01.2024

The Swedes AUTUMN’S CHILD’s performance is enormous, the group was only founded in 2019 and is already releasing their fifth long player with “Tellus Timeline”. This is remarkable, especially since the last work, “Starflower,” was only released almost exactly a year earlier and the reviews are always great and it won’t be any different here either.

The band claims to have delivered their best work to date and to have also raised the level of heaviness a bit. Nevertheless, the Northmen remain true to themselves and deliver successful melodic rock with a penchant for AOR with everything that goes with it. These are pleasant riffs, haunting keyboard and guitar melodies, pleasant rhythms and a singer who leads through the album with a melodic voice but a slightly rough undertone.

You notice from the first second that you are dealing with accomplished musicians. Frontman Mikael Erlandsson already gained experience as a solo artist but also with NORTHERN LIGHT and RADIOACTIVE, while Robban Bäck (WET, ex-MUSTASCH, ex-ECLIPSE) is considered an experienced drummer, Jona Tee already played the keys with HEAT and Pontus Akesson was already picking up the strings at NIGHTSCAPE. But the rest of the group is also audibly made up of full professionals, but is supported by Magnus Rosén (ex-HAMMERFALL) and singer Karin Funk. The latter’s lead and backing vocals add an epic touch to the Swedes’ Nordic-cool but pleasing sound.

Mikael mentioned that he was a fan of SWEET and SLADE from the 70s and, in addition to the typical 80s trademark, he also brings other elements into the band’s creative and varied sound. Nevertheless, the often cool keys in particular stand out, but some vocal lines immediately get stuck in your head, whereas smaller experiments like “Around The World In A Day”, which is strongly reminiscent of QUEEN, the opulently orchestrated “This Is Goodbye” or the rock’n’roll big band spectacle “Come And Get It”, provide further variety. On the other hand, the driving “Juliet”, which features a duet with Jim Jidhed (ALIEN), is a typical and strong genre number, the opener “Strike Of Lightning” is a good listen with typical trademarks and numerous hooks and the opulent “Gates Of Paradise” also shows the increased level of hardness wonderfully despite the dense atmosphere.

AUTUMN’S CHILD doesn’t seem to run out of creativity with their fifth album either and offers an album full of well-known and loved AOR trademarks, but also some surprises and a breath of fresh air in the genre, without deviating too far from it.
