Elton John Achieves EGOT Status with Emmy Win
British singer and pianist Elton John achieved EGOT status on Monday night, January 15, 2024, when he won the Emmy Award for Best Variety Special (Live) for “Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium.” The three-hour concert documentary aired on Disney+ and marked a significant achievement in John’s career.
In a statement after receiving his award, John expressed how “incredibly honored” he was to join the elite group of EGOT winners who have won Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards. As a multi-talented artist, John has previously received five Grammy Awards, two Oscars, and a Tony for his original music in “Aida.”
The concert special, which was produced by John’s husband David Furnish, marked the end of a three-night adventure at the Los Angeles stadium as part of the North American leg of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour. It was John’s final performance before the tour was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and then resumed in 2021.

The special, which featured a new generation of stars such as Dua Lipa and Brandi Carlile, beat out strong competition such as Apple Music’s Super Bowl halftime show starring Rihanna, ABC’s Oscars telecast, CBS’s Tony Awards telecast, and “Chris Rock: Selective Outrage” on Netflix.
In response to his win, John acknowledged that “Tonight is a testament to the power of the arts and the joy they bring to all of our lives.” He also expressed gratitude to his fans and supporters throughout his career, thanking them for their unwavering dedication.
