26 B Corporations certified companies from eight countries and three continents have formed the B Corp Beauty Coalition, a coalition that aims to promote a systemic and lasting change in the beauty industry, improving sustainability standards through collective actions.
The coalition’s mission is to enable greater collaboration and exchange between companies, identify and share best practices in the social and environmental fields, publish their results and raise awareness among consumers to associate beauty with responsibility. At the same time, the B Corp Beauty Coalition wants to help clients in the beauty industry orient themselves towards more sustainable consumer choices, communicating a new model of “beauty for good”, which associates beauty with greater social and environmental responsibility.
“As a B Corp certified company, we are committed to meeting the highest standards of social and environmental impact, but we find ourselves increasingly uncomfortable in the face of the social and environmental footprint of the beauty industry – comments Davide Bollati, president of Davines group and among the founding members of the B Corp Beauty Coalition -. We have come to the conclusion that our respective efforts alone are not enough, but that to bring about a truly meaningful change it is necessary to form a partnership of mutual commitment. Thus, we decided to form a coalition to join forces and offer concrete benefits both to customers of the beauty industry, but above all to the communities and planet we share. In interdependence, which is one of the founding values of the B Corp movement, there is no social sustainability without environmental sustainability, there is no progress without respect for ecosystems and human rights. Without human ecology, there is simply no future ».
For the Davines Group – which has as its distinctive traits the creation of sustainable high quality products, elaborated with an artisanal spirit and scientifically developed through the most advanced cosmetic technologies – being among the promoters of the B Corp Beauty Coalition represents a further step to the commitment brought forward with both brands, Davines for hair care and Comfort Zone for skin care, in the path of continuous evolution towards increasingly sustainable choices.
«Specifically, we are committed to investing our time and efforts to improve four key issues that all affect us personally: the sourcing and sustainability of ingredients; a greener logistics; the responsibility of the packaging; consistent and clear external communication that customers can understand and trust. The work has already begun, and we will welcome other certified B Corps to add their talent and input as we move, ”adds Shaun Russell, founder of Skandinavisk, and co-founding member of the B Corp Beauty Coalition.
