Exploring Radical Design: Capsule Plaza at Milan Design Week

Capsule Plaza Shines Bright at Milan Design Week 2024

Capsule Plaza, co-curated by Capsule magazine founder and creative director Alessio Ascari and architect Paul Cournet, was a standout during last year’s Milan Design Week. This year, the event takes place at Spazio Maiocchi and 10 Corso Como, former industrial landmarks in the Venetian port area.

Drawing inspiration from the radical movement in Italy in the late 1960s, Capsule Plaza is pushing boundaries and redefining what is considered “good taste” in design. Alessio Ascari and Paul Cournet see today’s radicalism as the blurring of creative boundaries, a trend that has been making waves in various industries.

The exhibition features collaborations with renowned brands and designers, including Verpan, Herzog & De Meuron, Rimowa, Nike, and Tiffany&Co. Capsule Plaza not only showcases established names but also provides a platform for emerging talents, creating a sense of community within the design industry.

The success of Capsule Plaza is evident in its inclusion on various “Best of Milan Design Week” lists, showcasing the innovative and disruptive nature of the event. Alessio Ascari and Paul Cournet are considering expanding the project globally, with potential iterations in the United States or Asia in the future.

In a fast-paced industry, Capsule Plaza stands out as a space that not only celebrates design but also fosters connections and collaboration among designers and brands from diverse backgrounds. As the design world continues to evolve, Capsule Plaza remains at the forefront, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the world of design.
