Ferrari, so a 400i becomes a Limousine

Who remembers the Ferrari 400 GT? For those who needed a refresh, it was – in practice – the upgraded version of the well-known 365 GT4 2 + 2 and brought to the five-liter threshold. It was an important evolutionary step in the theme of the large displacement 2 + 2 coupe with front engine and very high performance.

We were at the beginning of the Eighties, and someone in the United States thought of doing not a make-up, but a total change of DNA of that coupe. They made it a limousine, the kind used by celebrities and actors in big events. The wheelbase has been lengthened, doors have (of course) been added, the roof has been coated in black, even the rims have been modified. Six seats in the extended cabin, comfortable seats and ample space.

In support of all this luxury, the V12, the original engine, complete with Bosch K-Jetronic injection (which complied with the US exhaust emission standards of the years), a coupled that proved to be powerful and enviable: 4823 cubic centimeters engine of displacement capable of delivering a maximum power of 310 horsepower at 6500 rpm.

The car, which went up for auction, was sold for just over 17 thousand euros. Maybe a bargain, maybe not. But the question arises automatically: was it right to revolutionize that Ferrari? And, more generally: the Ferraris? They are cars, but considered works of art. Would we modify a Picasso, or any other artist you are fond of?
