In the week of August 15th, going to the cinema means above all relaxing and having fun: it is no coincidence that the most awaited film of these days is “Free Guy”, a simple but nice action-comedy starring Ryan Reynolds.
The Canadian actor plays a humble bank employee, who suddenly discovers he is a character in a video game one day. But there is more: the creators of the game are about to end his world and the protagonist will embark on a series of adventures to try to stop them.

Directed by Shawn Levy (the director of the “Night at the Museum” saga), “Free Guy” is a sort of “Truman Show” in the videogame universe, which, however, has neither the depth nor the ambitions of the great cult film by Peter Weir starring Jim Carrey. Several passages can also recall other more recent titles, including the Disney animated film “Wreck-It Ralph”, but there is no lack of original ideas in this feature film that alternates more banal passages with others decidedly more layered and capable of making people think.
Effective entertainment
Without taking itself too seriously, “Free Guy” manages to create pleasant entertainment, suitable for a carefree viewing with the whole family. Presented at the Locarno Film Festival, the film suffers from a script that plays its best cards in the first he starts and then drops to the distance, but he has a good pace and a series of funny sketches on his side, which do not make the total duration of almost two hours weigh too much. proof of a perfectly partly Ryan Reynolds.
