Córdoba closed 2023 with a greater number of organ donors compared to 2022, as reported by the Ablation and Implant Coordinating Body of Córdoba (Ecodaic), dependent on the provincial Ministry of Health.

During the year that has just concluded, organ donation activity increased by 10% compared to the previous year. 110 organ donation operations were carried out, while in 2022 there were 73.

Of the interventions, 44 were multi-organ, 37 were mono-organ, and 29 were corneal. In total, 220 organs, 178 corneas and 20 bone tissues were ablated.

These results allowed Córdoba to continue providing a response to people on the waiting list, with an average of seven organ donors per month and 20.9 donors per million inhabitants, a number that exceeds the national average of 17.25 donors per month. every million inhabitants.

In this regard, the director of Ecodaic, Marcial Angós, explained that these figures are the result of progress in the development of the Provincial Procurement Program, which has been underway since 2015, and which aims to increase the number of donors, with the commitment of the health team.

Angós highlighted that since the implementation of the Justina Law, passed in August 2018, the horizon is encouraging, since the cultural change in terms of organ and tissue donation is undeniable.

“At Ecodaic, we have been working through different communication and training strategies with the purpose of ensuring that citizens in general, and health and education professionals in particular, know what transplant treatment consists of from donation. . To achieve a donor society, it is essential that all people are involved in making decisions about their health,” he explained.

Regarding the transplants carried out in the province during 2023, they totaled 675, of which 336 were organs, 184 were corneas and 155 were bone tissue. In the case of organ transplants, 51 were from a living donor, which came from 25 public and private centers in the province.

The national waiting list is 10,026 people waiting for an organ or corneal tissue transplant. Of that total, 1,046 are from Córdoba.

During 2023 in Argentina, almost 4,000 transplants were registered, of which 1,819 were organ transplants and 2,110 cornea transplants.
