KMT Legislators Demand Action to Combat Sexual Violence and Protect Children

On April 10, 2024, KMT legislators in Taipei, Taiwan, held a press conference to address the escalating issue of sexual violence, especially in light of the recent incident involving artist Huang Zijiao. Led by legislator Chen Jinghui, the legislators put forward five demands aimed at preventing sexual violence crimes and protecting the rights and interests of children.

The demands included pushing for the implementation of four laws to prevent sexual violence crimes, establishing a task force on sexual crimes, setting up a sex offender information system, utilizing blockchain technology for investigations, and providing trauma repair services for victims. Additionally, the legislators advocated for anti-candid photography measures to be incorporated into public design.

During the press conference, legislator Ge Rujun presented a case involving the digital currency cash flow of “Creative Private House,” highlighting the need for enhanced measures to track and prevent illicit transactions. He called for prosecutors and police to collaborate with virtual currency exchanges and utilize artificial intelligence tools to pinpoint criminal activities.

Legislator Chen Jinghui emphasized the necessity of improving resources for investigating digital sex crimes and implementing a comprehensive strategy to combat online sexual violence. He called for the Executive Yuan to establish a dedicated agency to coordinate efforts and enhance law enforcement efficiency.

Legislator Li Yanxiu raised concerns about the ineffectiveness of the current sexual violence prevention network, citing bottlenecks in the removal of sexual images online and the cumbersome complaint process for victims. She urged for better support systems for victims and a crackdown on perpetrators.
