March for peace in the heart of Sanremo

Over two hundred people took part in the march “against war, for peace” yesterday morning, in the center of Sanremo. They paraded in via Matteotti waving the flags of peace, and stopped off in via Escoffier, forming a circle in which to remember the reasons for the initiative. Few slogans: the silence of Sunday morning was broken by the voice, and by the accordion, of Carlo Ormea, with “La guerra di Piero” and other themed songs. An itinerant garrison organized by fifteen groups from the political, trade union and center-left associations in the provinces: Amnesty International, Anpi, Casa Africa, CGIL, Emergency Liguria, Federation of Sanremese workers, Young Democrats, Libera, Mappamondo, Democratic Party , Sanremo Solidale Network, Communist Refoundation, 6000 Sardines, Italian Left and others. The administration and the Ukrainian community of Sanremo have not been received. The organizers of the “Stop Putin” demonstration last February 27 in Piazza Colombo have made it known that they have not been invited. “We are sorry that our message has been misrepresented – comments Mario Parretta, secretary of the Pd circle of Sanremo, one of the organizers of the garrison – We took to the streets against all wars in the world, to strengthen the culture of peace. Obviously we are close to the Ukrainian people, whose free country has been militarily occupied by Putin: the war has unfortunately arrived once again in the center of Europe. But our demonstration is not just for Ukraine and we have not invited them as we have not invited anyone. We would have been pleased if they had participated, as did the Ukrainians of Imperia: there are also some flags of this country ».

“Every day images of suffering, destruction and death are transmitted to us – is the text of the flyer read during the event – A harrowing reality in which we feel involved not only because it is a European country but also because it scares us. idea that it arrives in the courtyard of our house. In these decades the wars have never ceased even if we did not want to see them ». Parretta concludes: «We gathered around a nucleus of very simple ideas, if we want banal, but difficult to implement: overcoming war as a method of resolving conflicts and building paths to peace. We have remembered all the wars that are taking place in the world. We believe that the issue of how to build a culture of lasting peace must be on the agenda. We are not against any form of criminalization of any people or culture, it is natural that even within the Russian people there are people who are against Putin who behaved in a criminal manner in violation of international law ”. –
